Condit knows Woodley is a difficult opponent

Tuesday, March 11th, 2014

Many people still believe former Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC’s interim Welterweight champion Carlos Condit should have been given a chance to take on Johnny Hendricks at UFC 171 in a rematch of their 2013 fight for the vacant UFC Welterweight Championship belt.

Instead, the UFC offered Robbie Lawler the chance to take Hendricks on and Condit had to contend with a match against Tyron Woodley, on the same night as he prepares himself to prove his credentials once again against someone who is already being seen as the future of the division.

Speaking to a media outlet, Condit mentioned that Woodley is a great wrestler, adding that he has a brilliant background in amateur wrestling and he has transitioned well into becoming a Mixed Martial Artist.

Carlos Condit went on to add that Woodley has a lot of depth thanks to his skills in wrestling, but admitted that he is still very raw in the sport but he is still great at a few things and the things he does well are extremely dangerous too.

And Condit knows how important that match is for him, as he knows a win could directly place him in a UFC Welterweight Championship match against the winner of the Hendricks versus Lawler bout. That is his aim and he knows he has to take care of Woodley to achieve that.

And he admitted that the first thing is he has to take care of the job on hand at first and get past Woodley, which will be a difficult task in itself. Carlos Condit that a title shot is what he is gunning for and he is looking forward to getting on a run that will put him in a position to ask for a shot at the UFC Welterweight Championship again.

Nick Diaz turned down Carlos Condit fight

Wednesday, December 18th, 2013

With the Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC booking Robbie Lawler and Johnny Hendricks to fight for the vacant UFC Welterweight Championship, Dana White, the president of the UFC stated that he thought he had another high profile Welterweight match booked for UFC 171.

But that wasn’t meant to be as Nick Diaz turned the fight down.

White said that he had made Nick Diaz the offer of a fight against Carlos Condit last Saturday at UFC on FOX 9 but the veteran fighter passed on the offer. White also mentioned that the offer was made in person with Diaz present at cage side during the event.

And after passing up the opportunity to fight the Natural Born Killer, Diaz will continue to remain out of action, as per his own whims and wishes. He also told White that he might make a return in spring 2014 and if he does, it will be for a title fight.

White stated that he doesn’t want the match, adding that he thought he would like the rematch against the number one ranked Carlos Condit but the umber ten ranked Diaz just didn’t show enough interest. White also ventured to state that might be holding out for a return to action in May.

The UFC boss went on to explain that Diaz told him that he would want a fight against the winner of the Hendricks versus Lawler bout in a match for the title; but added that he had made it clear to him that he is ranked at number ten in the rankings and a title match is not given that way.

And this might just pave the way for Carlos Condit to get an immediate shot at the title once the winner is decided after the unfolding of UFC 171.

Carlos Condit open to Matt Brown showdown

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

The one sided win that former Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Welterweight Championship contender Carlos Condit registered against Martin Kampmann at UFC Fight Night 27 kept him within touching distance of another shot at the fabled titled currently held by Georges St. Pierre and it has led to a number of calls for the former interim title holder in the division to face rising Welterweight Matt Brown.

The violence that the fight potentially boasts of captures the imagination of the UFC fans and it is a fight that Condit himself is intrigued by as well. He recently gave an interview to MMAJunkie.com and Condit stated that Brown has been on the tear for some time in recent months and it is a fight that will excite the fans as well. He mentioned that he would love the fight against Matt Brown but he has to wait and see.

The fight against Brown is not the only thing on the mind of Carlos Condit at moment and he is targeting any fight that will put him right back into the title picture of the UFC Welterweight Championship once again. He mentioned that he would dearly love to win the lineal belt, having held the interim title and he would also love to avenge some of the losses he has suffered during his time in the UFC.

However, he knows he will not get the chance to avenge all his losses because not everyone is in the UFC but he would love to get things even with some of them. Carlos Condit is also open to rematches that he won via close decisions, such as those matches against Jake Ellenberger or even Rory MacDonald or just keep on having great fights in order to secure his standing in the UFC and the race for the title.

Carlos Condit to face Kampmann in August

Thursday, June 13th, 2013

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC’s interim Welterweight champion Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann are set to headline the next UFC pay per view event at the Bankers Life Field-house in Indianapolis on the 28th of August, according to a press release from the promotion. Speculation had been rife over the last few weeks about the fight with many media outlets reporting the match and now, the UFC has confirmed the bout has been agreed and signed.

The match will be the second meeting between the two highly rated fighters. Kampmann won the first match between the two via split decision back in 2009 when Condit made his first outing as a UFC fighter, joining the promotion as the last World Extreme Cage Fighting or the WEC Welterweight Championship holder. And the former interim UFC Welterweight champion will be looking to snap a two fight losing streak as well as avenge that loss against Kampmann.

Carlos Condit suffered a decision defeat at the hands of the returning UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre last year in a title unification match before losing via decision again against Johnny Hendricks recently which handed the big American a shot at the title against Rush. Condit, who has a professional record of 28-7 in his career is currently ranked as the third best Welterweight in the world and with Hendricks set to take on Rush, a win for the Canadian coupled with a win for himself might guarantee him a shot at the title again.

The eighth ranked Kampmann has lost much of the charisma he had a few years back and represents one of the easier fights that Carlos Condit has had in recent times and he will be looking to take advantage of the situation and get the win under his belt.
